Is performance what I am after?
Performance shapes are about responsive turns and drive in good waves. They reward confidence, so be honest about your current level and the waves you ride most.
What would alternative mean for me?
Alternative boards tend to move away from the standard shortboard template, often for a different feel, flow or style. Ask yourself whether you want a change of pace.
When does extra volume help?
High-volume boards add float, which can help paddling and wave count if you surf less often or in smaller conditions. Talk through the trade-offs in feel.
